About HTMS Mattaphon Shipwreck Dive Site
HTMS Mattaphon, also written Mataphon or Mattapon, is a wreck-diving site offshore from Ko Lan’s southern Nual Beach area. Local dive operators describe a former tank landing craft deliberately sunk as an artificial reef in 2012. The site includes the wreck and nearby concrete reef structures. Its map point is offshore, so it is a location reference rather than a pier or walk-in dive shop. Operator descriptions place upper parts of the wreck at shallower depths and the seabed at roughly 20–23 metres. Reported depths vary with the reference point and conditions; the actual planned profile must be agreed with the operator for the diver’s qualifications and current sea conditions. Do not read a site depth as an invitation to enter a wreck. Ask a dive operator whether this site is on the proposed itinerary, which experience and qualifications it requires, and what guiding, equipment, boat transfer, charges and cancellation conditions apply. Agree the actual departure and meeting point separately from the offshore pin. Visibility, currents, marine life and access can change, so the day’s decision belongs with the trip’s responsible team.
