What has changed
Samsung is rolling out a new way to pay for journeys in Bangkok, allowing owners of supported Galaxy phones to add a Rabbit Virtual Card to Samsung Wallet. The update is arriving between 20 and 26 October, so availability may differ between compatible phones during this week's rollout.
The launch announcement covers BTS services, BRT and participating Chao Phraya boat ticket machines. Samsung's current service page also lists the MRT Yellow and Pink lines. For passengers, the useful change is the option to use a supported phone in place of a separate Rabbit card on eligible services.
Check your route before tapping
The listed rail coverage includes the BTS Sukhumvit, Silom and Gold lines, plus MRT Yellow and Pink. This does not mean every Bangkok rail service is already included: Samsung describes support for additional networks, including the Blue and Purple lines and Airport Rail Link, as a year-end expansion target.
River passengers should check the participating ticket machines at their pier. The boat feature is described as a way to buy tickets at supported kiosks; it is not a promise that every boat has an onboard phone reader.
Device and account requirements matter
Samsung's setup instructions involve Samsung Wallet and My Rabbit, including Rabbit Wallet activation and identity verification. Its support page says availability can vary by country, device, network operator and firmware. Visitors with a phone bought abroad should check their own eligibility before depending on the feature.
For a first journey, retain another accepted way to pay until setup is complete and the intended route is confirmed. The announced 20-baht promotion is separate from normal acceptance: registration begins on 1 November, with conditions and limited availability. It should not be read as a universal fare cut starting today.
Check Samsung's current Rabbit Virtual Card instructions for supported devices and conditions. The rollout was announced on 20 October; the English press release followed on 21 October.
